How PennyRep Sends SMS
PennyRep is an AI receptionist service for local trade businesses (plumbers, HVAC technicians, electricians, etc.). PennyRep never initiates contact with end users. All SMS messages are triggered exclusively by an inbound customer phone call.
The message flow is:
- Customer calls the business's phone number
- An IVR menu answers and routes the call to Penny (the AI agent)
- Penny collects the customer's name, address, and service request
- Penny asks for explicit verbal consent before sending any SMS
- Only after an affirmative "Yes" is the booking confirmed and SMS sent
Pathway 1: Web Form Registration (B2B Onboarding)
Business owners onboarding onto the platform via our website provide explicit digital consent at https://www.pennyrep.com/get-started.
- Mechanism: An un-checked checkbox must be manually selected by the user to consent to SMS. The checkbox is optional — users can submit the form without checking it, but no SMS will be sent unless they explicitly opt in.
- Verbatim Disclosure Text: “I agree to receive transactional text messages from PennyRep including appointment confirmations, reschedule alerts, and job notifications. Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out or HELP for help. View our Terms and Privacy Policy.”
Pathway 2: Inbound Voice Interaction (End-Consumer Booking)
The following is the exact script Penny reads to every customer before triggering any SMS. This script is hardcoded into the AI agent prompt and cannot be skipped.
“Before I confirm your booking, may I have your permission to send automated text messages to this number for your booking confirmation and arrival updates? Message and data rates may apply. You can opt out at any time by replying STOP. Do you agree?”
SMS is triggered only if the customer provides an affirmative verbal response ("Yes," "Sure," "Go ahead," etc.). If the customer declines, no SMS is sent and the booking is still confirmed verbally.
Messages Sent After Consent
Two SMS messages fire immediately after verbal consent and booking confirmation:
Customer Confirmation
PennyRep: Hi [Name], your appointment with [Business] is confirmed for [Day] at [Time]. Msg & data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out.
Business Owner Alert (Internal Operational)
PennyRep Alert: New booking from [Name] at [Address] — [Problem]. Scheduled for [Day] at [Time]. Reply STOP to opt out.
Message frequency varies per appointment event. Typical interactions include booking confirmations, reschedule alerts, and cancellation notices. No marketing or promotional messages are ever sent.
